TDS Establishes a Scholarship Fund with Madison College's Construction and Remodeling Program
Here at TDS, we actively support organizations and projects working to build a better, more equitable and just world. Because we recognize how valuable our community is, we look for ways to reciprocate the benefit back to the community every chance we get.
One of the areas where the most work is needed is in addressing the history of racial inequity that has been a part of our country’s legacy. In our industry alone, a lot remains to be done to reverse unfair housing practices affecting communities of color across our country.
Not only that—we also recognize the lack of representation that exists in the construction industry across the board. That’s why TDS has established a scholarship fund in the MATC Construction and Remodeling department to benefit students of color who are pursuing an education in remodeling.
The purpose of the scholarship is to support disadvantaged youth, especially persons of color, in finding solid careers in the construction trades. We’re proud to partner with Madison College to help provide greater access to promising careers in the construction industry.
Madison College’s Construction and Remodeling Program offers comprehensive training in facilities equipped with modern, professional grade tools and equipment currently in use in the industry, and the program boasts a diverse staff and offers a supportive environment for women and minority students. With construction and remodeling jobs in the area projected to increase by 8.4% in the next four years, graduates of the program are well positioned for exciting career opportunities in a well-paying field.
Among other projects and learning opportunities, Construction and Remodeling program students build a net-zero ready Tiny Home each year, which is built by students under the direction of four master carpenters and then sold to the public.
The scholarship, awarded each fall and spring, provides one full-time of $1250, or two part-time scholarships of $750 each. Both new and continuing students are eligible for the award. While the application period for spring has closed, applications for fall semester will be opening soon. Students who are interested in applying can find information about the application process on the Madison College Foundation Scholarship Page (Madison College Foundation Scholarships – Madison College Foundation). The TDS Scholarship may be found in the List of Available Scholarships (Our Opportunities – Madison College Scholarships).
