A 3 bedroom 1 bathroom single-story ranch nestled in the heart of Madison’s beloved east side was quickly becoming too small as the family’s 3 children started to grow. With neighborhood kids ringing the doorbell calling to play, walkability to grocery stores, and the proximity to east side festivals – the family couldn’t bear to leave their close-knit community. They chose to invest in their home and expand their space with a new second story.

Adding a second story is no easy feat – it requires a thoughtful design and in this case, included completely re-imaging the first floor. Having worked with TDS previously for their kitchen remodel, these past clients knew who to call.

The second-story addition included 4 bedrooms, a full bathroom, and a small common space for gaming and movie nights. Relocating the bedrooms upstairs allowed a small 1st-floor bedroom to become a stairwell to the upstairs and a much-needed entryway/drop zone. The former living room became a real dining room that fits the whole family and guests, and the former primary bedroom became the first-floor living room.
